An Overview of Latest Google Algorithm Updates in 2019

If you are new to SEO when you hear the names like Panda, Penguin, Pigeon, and Hummingbird you might be wondering why we are talking about the birds here? Well, these are not just the bird’s names; these are the names of the latest Google Algorithm updates that wave every time the field of SEO. The updates mentioned above are the primary ones that have been applied by Google in recent years. In the field of internet marketing, they are always accepted with some fear, because they may result in a low search engine ranking for some websites.

However, the main reason behind the changes or updates in SEO algorithms is to provide Internet users with the most relevant content possible. It is difficult to rank on Google if a website does not follow the rules enforced by Google. Sites may get penalized too if we do not know what are the parameters, how they evolve and what measures must be taken to adapt to it. This blog aims to give an overview of the latest Google’s algorithms updates in the year 2019. Before that, I would like to discuss here the name of the major update in August 2018, because there Google enforced major changes in the algorithm which affected most of the websites. Let’s discuss a review of the August 2018 core update here.

•          Core Update August 2018:

Google has announced an update of the core algorithm in August 2018. The official tweet from Google Search Liaison:

Danny Sullivan from Google Search Liaison also assured that this is a “global” algorithm update and it would influence the global Google search results, independent of language or region.

Impact of this algorithm:

According to the surveys and data from many SEO professionals reported that after an update affected sites were mostly from medical and healthcare niche, capital and life events types.

According to Google rater’s sites affected due to this update were from:

  • Websites that were offering advice on life decisions like pages on buying a home, parenting
  • Websites that were requesting personal information from users, such as personal identification numbers, bank account numbers, etc., which could be used for identity theft.
  • Websites that were providing medical or health information that could affect your health.
  • Websites were advising on legal or financial, legal issues.

Solution:

Google said,” There is nothing you can do. There is no fix.” This does not give any clue, But Google has been suggesting that “You can continue to work on improving your website, make better content, make better overall user experience and ultimately, the next update may lead to your site ranking better.”

•          June 4, 2019 Diversity Update:

Google announced an update of its algorithm that used to rank the search results. The Core Update June 2019 has been deployed from Monday, June 3, 2019. Called “Core Update,” this algorithm update changed the way Google classifies pages in its search results. The company had a tweet for the release of the “Core Update” of June 2019. There was nothing special to expect from this update: Google simply notified site owners and SEO specialists but did not reveal the content or state of mind of this update.

The official tweet from Google SearchLiaison,

From the sub-domains point of view, significant changes were expected to happen. Google has separately tweeted that sub-domains would be processed as part of the main domain. This confirmed that only one search result will appear per domain.

Here is what Google declared,

Eventually, the Diversity update launched is separate from June 2019 Core update; these were two separate, independent releases.

•          June 2019 Core Update:

On 3rd June 2019, Google SearchLiaison declared that Google is trying to be more transparent. The search engine king has not only made an announcement of the update one day before it comes in but has also brought to it an official name: “June 2019 Core Update”

With this message, Google has avoided a lot of hypotheses, but again Google remained unwilling to provide more information on the update itself. The super search engine always keeps its algorithm settings secret and the way how webmasters can react to them.

The algorithm Analyzers has detected a rise in their graph. This shows that the influence of the latest broad core algorithm update on global website’s traffic. It has been officially named as June 2019 core update and has started to affect SERP rankings.

•          March 2019 Core Update:

On March 13, 2019, the first official update confirmed by Google for the year 2019. Just like the latest updates confirmed by Google, this was also a Core Update. Google has called this update as “March 2019 Core Update”:

According to Google representative Danny Sullivan, this was already the third update called “Core” (basic) since Google has officially confirmed to introduce major changes in algorithms. And it was again a global update.

Impact of March 2019 Core Update:

This update has harmed content makers, bloggers, and information sites of all types from this update. But, this algorithm showed a positive effect on quality content sites.

Summary:

Google did a massive update in its algorithms since August 1, 2018impacting the search results and affecting many webmasters, site owners, and SEO. Due to updates in Google algorithms, Sites requesting for personal details of users, advising on health-relevant issues, legal and financial solutions traffic got affected but publishing sites with quality content got to rise in their traffic. In short, Google always makes changes in its algorithms, which result in an impact on the ranking of websites. Sometimes your website gets awesome rankings, while some lose their top positions. But, as Google always says, “Each day Google releases one or more changes designed to improve search results.” So keep doing your best and be consistent with quality content for top ranking on Google.
